Martin Luther put a huge emphasis on the goodness of labor whether manual or intellectual. He called it vocation, and to him it was a way to serve God. This is true whether a homemaker, president of the United States, a school teacher, or a garbage truck driver. God calls every believer to a vocation, and that vocation is his or her calling, and it is sacred. It is a way to serve God by serving humanity.
One of today’s better lutheran thinkers, Gene Edward Veith, has written an excellent blog on this subject. You can read it here. Would love your comments when done.
